VHS visit

Hi VHS students!  I'll be in the guidance office on Thursday, April 9 during second and third periods.  I have two periods reserved, one for each of the following two groups:

Admitted to VU for Fall 2009: for this group, I'll be available to answer any questions you have about the process of enrolling for fall, including the deposit, FOCUS (summer orientation), health forms, financial aid, or anything else that's on your mind.

Thinking about applying to VU: you could be a senior who still may want to apply for this fall (we are still accepting applications and awarding scholarships to qualified applicants) or a junior or sophomore thinking ahead.  I can answer any questions you have about majors offered, application process, student life on campus, etc.

The guidance office at VHS will be posting notices of which group is scheduled for each period.  I'll also be sending an email as a reminder.

Enjoy the rest of this year, not long to go now!

A few other items of interest:
  • File the FAFSA by March 1!
  • Our new Union is open! Porter County high school students, we have scheduled a lunch for you at 12:30 on Friday, January 16 if you can make it. Let me know.
  • The Union dedication is Saturday, January 31, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. It should be a momentous event.
  • We have several visit days for admitted students. For more information, go to www.valpo.edu/admissions/visit

Happy Thanksgiving!

Valpo high school students:
As you approach a little time off from school next week, it's a good time to apply to Valpo if you haven't done so. We are about to release our new web portal, which contains our own on-line application, 0n-line inquiry form, and once you apply, the ability to check on your application status. Although we aren't officially live yet, you are invited to check it out at:

https://emas.valpo.edu

Let me know how it works; I'm interested in your feedback!

VHS tomorrow

I'll be at VHS tomorrow, Wednesday Oct. 8, during the second period. Anyone who needs more information about VU, please see me. I've reviewed a fair number of VHS student applications for next fall, and we are beginning the process of sending out admission and scholarship letters. If you apply now or next week before the huge rush on November 1, you will hear from us fairly quickly.

November 1 is our "early action" application date. It doesn't commit you to Valpo, it simply gives you the best opportunity for all of our various scholarships and guarantees that you will hear from us by December 1.

If you haven't officially visited campus, I strongly encourage you to do so. I talked to a VHS student recently who has grown up in Valparaiso, been to basketball games and concerts on campus, but has never seen VU "under the hood". He learned a lot from his tour, a meeting with me, and also with a professor.

You can apply on line at http://www.valpo.edu/admissions/apply
Schedule a visit by calling 464-5011, or go to http://www.valpo.edu/admissions/visit for several visit formats and opportunities.

New visit plans

We won't be presenting at VHS on September 17 as originally planned. However, I have arranged to be in the guidance office on Wednesday, October 8, during the second period. I'll send email reminders as the date approaches.

I'm also going to be on a panel at Crown Point High School on the evening of September 17 to talk about college admissions.

Now is a good time to apply for admission before the semester gets more hectic! You can apply on line at http://www.valpo.edu/admissions/apply/
Have a great day!

Valpo High school visits

It looks like I'll be at VHS on Sept. 16 (ISTEP day!). My colleagues, Jennifer and Suzan, will be presenting about college admissions and financial aid. I'll be hanging around, and would love to meet any of you.

I'm working on scheduling a visit sometime in Oct. to be in the guidance office with more Valpo info. Hope to see some of you then!
